Josie Maran Cosmetics...luxury with a conscience...

Image from www.dev.josiemarancosmetics.com.
Model Josie Maran recently started her own natural and/or organic cosmetics line. The packaging has great shelf appeal and is recyclable which is always a plus! I have not yet had a chance to try the make-up but I like what the company is doing. Here's a statement from their website...
"Josie Maran Cosmetics is just getting started, but it is our goal to be known for the responsible choices we make. Our products, packaging and processes are only the beginning, as we endeavor to broaden our scope of responsibility each day. Our efforts include small but important steps – printing only when necessary and using recycled paper and eco-friendly products in our day-to-day operations. Our display units at our retail counters have been constructed from sustainable materials and we do our best to be responsible in our manufacturing and shipping materials. We learn as we go and these things take time, but we're getting there."
Now available online.

Unfortunately, Maran cosmetics are not toxin-free. The packaging may be biodegradable or recyclable, but the products inside that packaging are not good for your health. Check the ingredients against the database at SkinDeep -- there are a number of moderate to high risk ingredients. Too bad, it looks like they WANT to do the right thing.

Yes that is true, it is really just a start. In comparison to a lot of other big name cosmetic companies I feel it is a good start though. Also on their website you can get a very clear breakdown of what is in every product the good and the bad!

I think its very important to be concerned about the waste we create from things such as skin care bottles. Its the fact that we have not been careful that has gotten us in the position that we are in now. Moreover, I think its about time we started to use less chemicals and move towards things that are more natural, even for our skin.
